Simon McAlister named first “Bruce Devlin Scholar” through The LeVeen-Roach Scholarship Fund of Secession Golf Club

The LeVeen-Roach Scholarship Fund was founded in memory of two members, Jeffrey Earle LeVeen and Stephen Louis Roach of Secession Golf Club, who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Their love of golf, devotion to Secession and appreciation of our Lowcountry community will forever live in the LeVeen-Roach Scholarship Fund, which supports the higher education ambitions of Beaufort-area students who need only demonstrate academic potential, interest and commitment to growth and the community, with awards amount reflecting financial need.

The Devlin Foundation has been supporters of the scholarship fund for many years. 2024 marks the first year we selected the Bruce Devlin Scholar. “Simon McAlister, a 2024 graduate from Beaufort High School, embodies every attribute we believe our Foundation and mission represents”, says Bruce Devlin. “He is a fine, young man and we can’t wait to follow him through his next journey.” Simon holds both Academic and Athletic Distinctions and Awards: National Honor Society (GPA 5.1), Junior Marshall, AP Capstone Diploma, AP Scholar, All State for Golf (Top 10) in ’21, ’22 and ’23, All-Region (Top 10), Lowerstate Individual Championship 2023, Lowerstate Team Champion 2023, State Championship Runner Up 2023 and Regional Champion ’22 and ’23. Simon volunteers for Clubs for Kids and Rise Against Hunger and works as a caddie at Secession Golf Club.

Congratulations Simon!
